Moscow demands moderate opposition's separation from terrorists in Aleppo be started immediately

MOSCOW. Oct 19 (Interfax) - The moderate Syrian opposition's separation in Aleppo must be started immediately, and there is not a single reason for not doing this, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"There is not a single reason now not to bring the separation to an end. We believe these steps must be taken right now, so that we can see the moderate opposition separated from terrorists in the near future," Zakharova said.

The suspension of the Russian Aerospace Forces' and Syrian Air Force's strikes is related to the U.S. obligations to separate the moderate opposition from terrorists in Syria, she said.

"This step was conditioned by the obligations undertaken by the U.S., namely the separation of terrorists from the moderate opposition. The Americans have said each time that the separation is impossible without a ceasefire. Now the condition set, in particular, by our American partners has been met," she said.

"I'd like to repeat: this was the only precondition set by the U.S. side," she said.
