Number of populated areas engaged in Syria truce grows to 817 in past 24 hours - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Reconciliation agreements have been signed with representatives of four populated localities in the Latakia province in the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The number of populated localities engaged in the reconciliation process has grown to 817," the Russian center for reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria said in a report published on the Russian Defense Ministry's website on Wednesday.

The number of armed units that pledged their commitment to accepting and abiding by the cessation of hostilities terms remains unchanged, still standing at 69, it said.

"Negotiations on joining the cessation of hostilities continued with the field commanders of illegal armed units in the populated locality of Muadamiet al-Shih in the Damascus province and armed opposition units in the provinces of Homs, Hama, Aleppo and Al-Quneitra," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Humanitarian aid, weighing around one tonne, was distributed among Damascus residents at a school for the sons of killed Syrian Armed Forces servicemen, it said.

"Civilians who are leaving Aleppo city areas held by illegal armed units are provided with hot food and essential goods," it said.
