Intl forces imitating aspiration to have Karabakh conflict settled - Azerbaijani presidential aide

BAKU. Oct 20 (Interfax) - The talks on the Karabakh problem bring no results due to the destructive stance of Armenia as the international community imitates efforts on resolution of the conflict, Azerbaijani presidential aide for sociopolitical issues Ali Hasanov said.

"Regrettably, each time when Azerbaijan speaks of its right to have its territories released in either way, it comes across the position of the international forces imitating the intent to step up its efforts for settlement of the conflict," Hasanov said in an interview with local media.

Though the talks have been underway in various formats under the auspices of the OSCE for more than 20 years now, there is no result, he said. "We have this kind of situation due to the destructive stance of Armenia. Therefore, the resolution of the conflict has been delayed and there are no actual results," Hasanov said.

"Based on the fundamental principles of international law, Azerbaijan states that the exercise by Armenians residing in Nagorno-Karabakh of their ethnic rights is only possible on the condition of them being granted a status within Azerbaijan's territorial integrity," he said.

Hasanov emphasized that the failure to find a solution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is the main obstacle on the way towards peace, security, stability, the atmosphere of political partnership, and the entire region's economic development.
