Baku accuses Armenian forces of unending attempts to destabilize situation in Nagorno-Karabakh

BAKU. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov has accused Armenia of unending attempts to worsen the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict area.

"Yerevan is not ceasing attempts to destabilize the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani frontline," the Defense Ministry press service quoted Hasanov as saying at a meeting with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Herbert Salber.

Hasanov regretted that Yerevan is ignoring the UN Security Council demand that it fully withdraw from "the occupied Azerbaijani territories" and immediately and unconditionally remove its forces from these lands.

"The Armenian authorities have not recognized the international community's demands for years and are interested in preserving the current status quo," Hasanov said.

The European Union is in favor of the soonest possible settlement of the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh in a peaceful way so as to ensure stability in the South Caucasus region and believes negotiations toward this should be continued, Salber said.

The meeting participants exchanged opinions on the military-political situation in the region and other issues of mutual interest.
