Red Cross was unable to deliver humanitarian aid to Aleppo, as its employees were not allowed into city - director general

SOCHI. Oct 26 (Interfax) - International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was unable to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria's Aleppo during the recent humanitarian pause since one of the sides did not observe it, ICRC Director General Yves Daccord said in an interview with Interfax.

"The ICRC is working along the entire frontline and during the recently announced humanitarian pauses there was a situation where one of the conflicting parties did not observe the pause, not providing the ICRC employees with the necessary access. I'd rather not disclose what party it was," Daccord told Interfax on the sidelines of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

"It's not that the ICRC is not willing to work. The point is that we deem it important that our employees are not shelled. Unfortunately, it wasn't like it should be this time," he explained.
