Russian trained by Syrian militants gets 15 years in high-security colony
ROSTOV-ON-DON. Oct 26 (Interfax) - The Northern Caucasus District Military Court has convicted Russian citizen Rakhman Bagbekov in the case involving training by militants of the terrorist organization ISIL, which is banned in Russia, court press officer Alyona Katkalo told Interfax.
"According to the information possessed by investigators, the defendant was trained in a training camp of the militants of the international terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in the territory of Syria," Katkalo said.
The man was charged with a crime enshrined by Article 205.3 of the Russian Criminal Code (undergoing training for the purposes of conducting terrorist activities), she said.
The court sentenced Bagbekov to 15 years in a high-security penal colony.
