Ryabkov, Syrian deputy foreign minister Mekdad discuss Syria's chemical demilitarization, cooperation with OPCW - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. Oct 28 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov held consultations with Syrian First Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday evening.
"A substantive exchange of views took place on issues regarding Syria's chemical demilitarization and Damascus' cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)," the ministry said in a statement.
"In the context of the OPCW and UN examining Syria's chemical dossier, the parties discussed the functioning of the relevant OPCW-UN Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM), including in light of the release of the latest JIM reports," the ministry said.
The parties also discussed coordinating their efforts in countering threats of chemical terrorism.
