Ukraine violates truce more than 400 times in past 24 hours - DPR
DONETSK. Oct 31 (Interfax) - The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has been shelled by Ukrainian troops 440 times in the past 24 hours, DPR deputy operations commander Eduard Basurin said on Monday.
"Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian militants have violated the ceasefire 440 times. During the shelling, they launched 159 artillery shells, including 110 of 152mm caliber, 222 rounds and 12 tank shells. They also used grenade launchers, infantry fighting vehicles and various types of small arms," Basurin said at a briefing.
Tank shells and mortar rounds were fired on Yasne, in breach of the Minsk Agreements, on Monday morning, injuring a civilian, he said.
"The shelling resulted in Olkhovsky, Anatoly Ivanovich, born 1943, sustaining multiple fragmentation injuries and damage to 22 houses, electricity and gas supply lines," he said.
The Ukrainian shelling also damaged three houses in Zaitseve and two in Oleksandrivka in the Petrivsky district of Donetsk, Basurin said.
The enemy continues trying to infiltrate the DPR to stage terror attacks here, he said.
"In Mariinka, our military servicemen foiled an attempt to plant in our republic terrorists disguised as civilians registered in the Donetsk region," Basurin said.
He urged Ukraine to stop shelling villages in the south of the DPR to allow repair and reconstruction work to be carried out there.
"Due to the ongoing massive artillery and mortar attacks of Kominternove, Bezimenne, Leninske and Sakhanka and nearby populated areas, repair teams have been unable to start working to restore power supplies in the south of the republic," Basurin said.
He asked Ukrainian representatives at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) to help stop the Ukrainian shelling.
"I want to ask the Ukrainian JCCC representatives and General Kremenetskyi personally. Instead of accusing us of shelling our own territories and the JCCC's Russian side of inaction, you better sort out your own terrorist gangs that are continually shelling the Donetsk land, and let repair and reconstruction work to be done in the south of the republic," Basurin said.
