Matviyenko calls on Japan to lift anti-Russian sanctions when speaking in Tokyo
TOKYO. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Russia hopes that Japan will consider lifting the anti-Russian sanctions, as they obstruct the development of relations between the two countries, Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko said.
"We hope that the Japanese side will consider lifting the restrictions, some of the sanctions that were introduced against Russia, because they adversely affect the development of our economic cooperation and restrain the process of ramping up the volumes of mutual trade and mutual cooperation," Matviyenko said at the meeting with Japanese minister of economy in Tokyo on Wednesday.
In Matviyenko's view, politicians in both Russia and Japan face a responsible mission today, which is to seize a historic chance for the large-scale, fully-fledged and multi-format development of the Russia-Japan relations.
"It is exactly this approach that we, the Russian side, are set to," Matviyenko said.
