U.S. Forces Afghanistan commander declares Black Sea's importance for NATO in Georgia

TBILISI. Nov 7 (Interfax) - U.S. Forces Afghanistan Commander Gen. John Nicholson met with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili in Tbilisi on Monday.

The general told the press after the meeting he had thanked the prime minister for the contribution of Georgia and Georgian servicemen stationed in Afghanistan to global security.

He said cooperation between the United States and Georgia was continuing and that he had met with the Georgian defense minister to discuss bilateral contacts and joint exercises. He also said that the United States supported Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Speaking of NATO's plans for the Black Sea, Nicholson said that Black Sea security was very important for NATO.

He said they had a strategy, which implied aerial and naval patrols and exercises.
