Saudi Arabia plans to invest in Kazakhstan nuclear industry - Kazakh ambassador

ASTANA. Nov 9 (Interfax) - Saudi Arabia plans to invest in Kazakhstan's nuclear industry, Kazakh Ambassador Bakyt Batyrshayev has said.

If in 2005-16 Saudi Arabia invested $89 million in Kazakhstan's economy, then now hopefully cooperation in the field of nuclear energy alone will by far surpass this amount in the coming years, Batyrshayev told a Wednesday briefing in Astana.

In particular, Batyrshayev noted that Saudi Arabia's plans to build 16 small nuclear reactors by 2040 open up prospects for broad cooperation.

This offers opportunity for the two countries to cooperate in the field of human resources training, use the international nuclear fuel bank's opportunities, conduct geological exploration involving National Atomic Company Kazatomprom, and carry out joint research with the sides already working on specifying future projects, the Kazakh ambassador to Saudi Arabia said.
