Switzerland committed to preventing attempts to bypass EU sanctions against Russia, Russian countermeasures - ambassador

MOSCOW. Nov 11 (Interfax) - Switzerland reaffirms its commitment to doing all it can to prevent any attempts to bypass sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia and Russia's countermeasures, Swiss Ambassador to Russia Pierre Helg said in an interview with Interfax.

"Switzerland reaffirms that it will do all it can to prevent bypassing of both the European sanctions and Russian countermeasures. That is, for instance, it would be impossible to export vodka from Russia via Switzerland if, say, the Russian state imposes such a ban," Helg said.

Nor can Switzerland's territory be used for importing embargoed EU products to Russia, he said.

"Taking into account the tense situation and the exchange of sanctions and countermeasures between the European Union and Russia, Switzerland has taken measures to make sure that its territory cannot be used to bypass the sanctions or Russian countermeasures," Helg said.

The diplomat also reaffirmed that there is a list of 11 Russian bank transactions which Swiss banks must report to the authorities.

"That's right, that is, there is a list of Russian bank transactions which Swiss banks must report to the relevant institutions. All this is being done to avoid the use of Switzerland to bypass the sanctions," he said.
