Bashkortostan to change law so leader can joint Bashneft board in 2017
MOSCOW/UFA. Nov 15 (Interfax) - Bashkortostan plans to make legislative amendments that will allow the Russian internal republic's leader, Rustem Khamitov to join the board of directors of oil company Bashneft , Khamitov's press service told Interfax.
However, for the time being, Bashkortostan's candidates for the new board of Bashneft, a controlling stake in which was acquired by state oil major Rosneft in October, will be the current board directors, the press service said.
"The republic's leader Rustem Khamitov has not declined the proposal to become a member of Bashneft's board of directors. But right now existing legislative does not provide for the possibility of combining the position of the head of the republic with his participation in the management bodies of economic entities. There are plans to make the relevant changes to regional legislation in the coming months, after which it will be possible to return to the proposal of Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin to join the board of directors and approve this decision at the annual shareholder meeting that will be held in the summer of 2017," a spokesman said.
"Until then, it has been proposed to include the candidacies of Bashkortostan Prime Minister Rustem Mardanov and Land and Property Relations Minister Yevgeny Guryev in Bashneft's board of directors," the spokesman said.
