Delivery of humanitarian aid to eastern Aleppo being obstructed by militants, not Damascus - Russian diplomat
GENEVA. Nov 19 (Interfax) - Militants in Aleppo are obstructing the implementation of a UN plan to improve the humanitarian situation in this city, a source at the Russian permanent mission to the UN organizations in Geneva told Interfax on Saturday.
"Russia is continuing to do all it can to implement the UN plan on providing humanitarian aid to eastern Aleppo," the source said when asked by Interfax to comment on a statement by Jan Egeland, the head of the UN/ISSG Task Force on Humanitarian Access in Syria, that the delivery of humanitarian aid to Aleppo residents is being obstructed mostly by Damascus.
"The situation looks obvious to us. While Russia and Syria are trying to provide all possible conditions for humanitarian operations, opposition organizations - both political and armed groups - are consistently sabotaging the UN efforts," he said.
"The UN people themselves, including Mr. Egeland, shouldn't hesitate and openly name the spoilers of humanitarian operations," the source said.
