Russia takes in Ukrainian refugees compliant with high standards - Russian Foreign Ministry referencing UNHCR

MOSCOW. Nov 24 (Interfax) - Russia complies with the highest international standards in sheltering Ukrainian refugees in its territory, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador at Large Andrei Nesterenko said.

"The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR] has repeatedly stated, and I'd like to emphasize it, that Russia meets the highest international standards or even surpasses them by the way it takes in the Ukrainians," Nesterenko said at a Federation Council conference on Thursday.

"The Russian Interior Ministry regularly provides statistical data pertaining to the size and composition of migrant flows from Ukraine [...] and information about the efficient measures taken by the Russian authorities to assist Ukrainian citizens in our territory," he said.

"The active information campaign has helped end the blockade created by Western countries at the initial stage around the question of Ukrainian refugees and internally displaced persons, which was aimed at hushing up the humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine," Nesterenko said.
