Matviyenko remains CIS Interparliamentary Assembly speaker

MOSCOW. Nov 24 (Interfax) - Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko is reelected as head of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Interparliamentary Assembly Council, the upper house press service reported.

"The participants of the meeting [of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council] approved the agenda of the Assembly's 45th plenary meeting and elected the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council chair. Valentina Matviyenko was reelected as head of the Commonwealth's Assembly Council," the Federation Council press release said.

Furthermore, Matviyenko held several bilateral meetings with the heads of the national parliamentary delegations on the sidelines of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg.

"In particular, the talks were held with the Belarusian Republic's National Assembly Council of the Republic Chairman Mikhail Myasnikovich and Azerbaijani Republic Milli Mejlis Chairman Ogtay Asadov. An informal meeting was also held between the heads of parliaments of the Eurasian Economic Union member countries," the Federation Council press service said in a statement.
