Ukrainian prosecutor general visits London to discuss possible creation of joint groups to investigate high-profile criminal cases
KYIV. Nov 25 (Interfax) - Ukraine's Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has met with representatives of British law enforcement authorities to discuss the experience in investigating grave offences related to finance, economy and corruption.
During his visit to London, Lutsenko held a meeting with officials from Britain's National Crime Agency and Serious Fraud Office, the press service of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office said on Thursday.
"The main purpose of these meetings is to exchange experience in investigation of grievous financial, economic and corruption crimes and discuss prospects for creation of joint investigative groups in the most challenging criminal cases," the Prosecutor General's Office said in a release.
It is noted in the release that the British side expressed readiness to provide support to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office in reforming the country's prosecution agencies and the fight against crime, including criminal proceedings against former high-ranking Ukrainian officials.
Lutsenko also gave an interview to the Ukrainian BBC service to speak about the achievements of his office in the fight against crime and corruption, as well as about the process of reforming Ukrainian prosecution authorities. "Organized crime ignores state borders today and therefore, the cooperation between our offices in counteraction against transnational wrongdoing is of the utmost importance," Lutsenko said.
