Lavrov, Cavusoglu to discuss easing of restrictions on Turkish imports, military-technical cooperation, Syria - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu will discuss Syria and certain aspects of bilateral cooperation at a meeting of the Joint Strategic Planning Group.
"The ministers will confer on a broad range of topical bilateral, regional and international problems and will exchange opinions on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa and the Cypriot settlement. They will focus on cooperation in the fight against international terrorism, first and foremost in Syria, and modalities of the Syrian settlement process with an emphasis on the shift to the political track through launching an inclusive national dialogue," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a report.
Although Russia and Turkey do not see eye-to-eye on certain items on the global agenda, they are set to continue the constructive dialogue, the ministry said.
In addition, the ministers will ponder the lifting or relaxation of special economic measures applied to Turkish goods imported by Russia.
"They will concentrate on energy cooperation, which continues to play a key role in bilateral relations. Despite the crisis, the sides continued to implement their major project, the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, this year," the report said.
Russia and Turkey may expand cooperation at the next, post-crisis stage through joint high-tech projects in space exploration and military-technical cooperation, the ministry said.
The meeting will also touch upon the upcoming working visit of Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim to Moscow.
"We can state the mutual interest in restoring and expanding the Russian-Turkish dialogue in every area," the ministry said.
