UNSC resolution imposing sanctions on North Korea should not deteriorate people's life - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - UN Security Council resolutions should be aimed at stopping violations of the UN Charter and should do no harm to citizens, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, commenting on the elaboration of the Russian stance on the UN Security Council resolution pertaining to North Korean nuclear tests.
"It's our principled position that sanctions resolutions should primarily meet their goals, i.e. everything possible should be done to prevent a recurrence of actions by particular states which are at odds with international law. Such resolutions should do no harm to the common man, ordinary people, citizens," Zakharova said at a press briefing of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.
The purpose of resolutions and sanctions should be the prevention of violations of international law rather than an impact on people "who have nothing to do with this situation," she said.
Russia's stance on the UN Security Council resolution regarding North Korean nuclear tests is being coordinated, she said.
"Speaking of this work, it has been in progress until this very day, in particular, jointly with our relevant agencies," Zakharova said.
