Uzbek foreign minister and Russian senators discuss upcoming elections in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov met with Ilyas Umakhanov, deputy speaker of the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, and a group of Federation Council members, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry's press service told Interfax on Friday.

The delegation, which arrived in Uzbekistan at the invitation of the country's Central Election Commission, also includes Senators Vladimir Dzhabarov, Mikhail Kozlov, Sergei Lisovsky and Dmitry Mezentsev.

"The members of the Russian delegation shared their plans to visit regions as international observers at the snap presidential elections in Uzbekistan," the press service said.

The sides also discussed ways to further bolster ties between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Russia in the context of the relevant bilateral agenda, it said.

Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Vladimir Tyurdenev attended the meeting as well.

The presidential elections in Uzbekistan are due to take place on December 4.
