DPR says four civilians injured in shelling in past week

DONETSK. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Ukrainian forces shelled the territory of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) 11,599 times, leaving four civilians injured, Eduard Basurin, a senior officer of the DPR Defense Ministry, told reporters.

"The intensity of shelling has increased compared to last week to 11,599 times. Of those, 3,691 times the territory of the republic was shelled from multiple rocket launcher systems, [tube-launched] artillery, tanks and mortars. In total, the adversary committed 28,285 ceasefire violations in November," Basurin told reporters on Friday.

A total of 24 populated areas came under fire in the DPR over the past week, resulting in injuries among civilians, he said.

"Four civilians suffered injuries and 47 residential buildings were damaged in the populated areas of Staromykhailivka, Leninske, Dokuchaievsk, Kominternove, Kruta Balka, Sakhanka, Yasynuvata and the Petrovsky district in Donetsk in the past week," Basurin said.

Meanwhile, it was agreed with the Ukrainian side that repairs would be organized to restore damaged equipment at the Donetsk filtration station, he said.

"However, a damage control team that headed to the facility yesterday was shelled by Ukrainian forces and a member of the team received a gunshot wound as a result," Basurin said.

On December 1, Ukrainian forces fired 40 shells from multiple rocket launchers on Bila Kamianka, he added.

"Therefore, we apply to the OSCE mission, requesting to conduct an impartial investigation of this crime and record another instance where the Ukrainian Armed Forces used prohibited weapons," he said.

In total, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, supported with heavy weapons and armored vehicles, sortied out 14 times towards DPR positions in November 2016. Besides, the DPR recorded 11 passes of unmanned aerial vehicles over the territory of the republic in the past week, Basurin said.
