Ukrainian army funding insufficient - prime minister
KYIV. Dec 5 (Interfax) - Despite an increase in recent years, funding for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is still insufficient, the country's Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroysman said.
"Each year we are trying to do everything so that funding for our Armed Forces grows, and I think the situation over these past few years has been positive but still not enough to give the Ukrainian army its due," the premier said at festivities on the occasion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' 25th anniversary in Kyiv on Monday.
The government sees its task in creating conditions for future development of the Armed Forces, in particular, by guaranteeing it material support, Hroysman said.
"Our task is to make sure the Ukrainian soldier gets good pay and has everything that a modern army needs for effective fighting," Hroysman said.
The premier thanked international partners for assistance in supporting and reforming the Armed Forces.
"Our task today is to worthily go the way of further creation of the Armed Forces. Today it is important to note that we have a genuine army that is capable of defending our country, capable of defending the values that are intrinsic to any civilized society," Hroysman said.
