Top Russian and Swedish diplomats discuss Middle East, Syria, Ukraine and interaction in UN

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov held consultations with his Swedish counterpart Annika Soder to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation within regional organizations in the Baltic region, Northern Europe and the Arctic, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The sides held a detailed exchange of opinions on a wide range of international issues, including the situation in the Middle East, Syria and Ukraine. They discussed the course of preparations for OSCE [Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe] Ministerial Council meeting in Hamburg on December 8-9 this year. They also noted the need to maintain regular Russian-Swedish dialogue despite the existing disagreements in assessments of different events," the Russian ministry said on its website on Tuesday.

In light of Sweden's upcoming membership in the UN Security Council from January 1, 2017, the diplomats also addressed interaction between Russia and Sweden within the United Nations.
