Peskov, citing Putin's opinion, does not answer question about Sentsov's possible release
MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - The Kremlin did not comment on a question as to on what terms convicted Ukrainian filmmaker Oleh Sentsov may be released from prison.
Asked by a Ukrainian journalist whether he could announce the conditions under which Sentsov may be released, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said: "I cannot do so."
"This is a court decision, which Russian President Vladimir Putin cited [at the Presidential Culture Council meeting on Friday]. The president did not cite any specifics. I cannot disclose more now. The president has quite clearly laid down his point of view," Peskov said.
Last Friday, Putin said in reply to filmmaker Alexander Sokurov's request to settle Sentsov's problem that the Ukrainian filmmaker was jailed not for his convictions and creative works, but for his terrorist activity. Furthermore, Putin said that the issues of the sort need to be settled in court.
Putin said that he would bear in mind Sokurov's request.
