North Korea citizens attempt to smuggle about 40kg of yarn used to make bulletproof jackets to home country via Vladivostok
VLADIVOSTOK. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Customs officers in Russia's Vladivostok stopped smugglers who attempted to transfer dual-use items such as aramid yarns (used to manufacture military-grade body armor vests) out of the country.
"Citizens of DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) made an attempt to take two boxes of aramid yarns out of the country, using air transport. Eight skeins of the yarn weighing about 40 kilos were seized during their transfer to an airplane departing to the DPRK," the Vladivostok Customs press service said.
Aramid yarn is on the list of dual-use goods and technologies which can be used to make weapons and military equipment and are subject to export control. The list was enacted by a presidential decree in 2011, it said.
The customs office also revealed that a criminal probe was launched following the seizure under the Criminal Code Article 'Smuggling'. Investigative measures are underway.
