Some 8,500 people exit militant-held districts in eastern Aleppo in past 24 hours - Russian reconciliation center

MOSCOW. Dec 9 (Interfax) - The Russian center for reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria continues to provide assistance to local residents leaving the militant-controlled districts in the eastern part of the Syrian city of Aleppo.

"With the help of the Russian center for reconciliation of the opposing sides, 8,461 citizens, among them 2,934 children, have exited Aleppo's districts still under militants' control in the past 24 hours alone," the center said in a report.

Fourteen militants have laid down their arms and have crossed into the city's western part controlled by Syrian government forces, it said.

"All of them have been amnestied in accordance with the decision adopted by the president of Syria," the center said.

Russian servicemen from the International Mine Action Center continue to clear mines from Aleppo's eastern districts liberated from militants, it said.

"Efforts to remove explosive items in residential neighborhoods on an overall area of six hectares have been fully completed. A central water pumping station, two power plants, two schools and two mosques have been fully cleared of mines and rebuilt," it said.
