Finnish PM notes importance of meeting Hanhikivi 1 NPP schedule, authorities' requirements

OULO. Dec 12 (Interfax) - Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila said after talks with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Friday that it is important to meet the construction schedule for the Hanhikivi 1 Nuclear Power Plant and the requirements of the authorities.

In Oulo there is particular interest in the construction of the planned nuclear plant, Sipila said at a joint press conference with Medvedev, adding that he and Medvedev remarked that the most important thing for them is for the work there to proceed on schedule while complying with all of the requirements of the authorities.

Rusatom Energo International (formerly known as Rusatom Overseas) and Fennovoima OY signed the contract for the construction of Hanhikivi 1 NPP at the end of December 2013. The plant is to be built near Pyhajoki. Along with the contract to build the plant, a ten-year fuel contract for the future plant worth 450 million euros was signed with Russian nuclear fuel company TVEL.
