Russia expects FATF to harshly respond to trade with terrorists

MOSCOW. Dec 14 (Interfax) - Moscow is expecting the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to treat countries which fail to comply with the ban on trade with terrorists in a harsh manner, including blacklisting.

"The UN Security Council adopted another resolution, 2322, on December 12 in relation to criminal law aspects of anti-terrorism [measures]. I cannot call this document revolutionary or brand new but we have still managed to include some of our approach in it," Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of New Threats and Challenges Ilya Rogachev said.

"It urged states to exchange information in the field of criminalization and financing of terrorism with an emphasis on FATF recommendation No 5," he said.

"At Russian initiative, it was expanded this year to a complete ban on any trade with terrorists, including trade in natural resources, as prescribed by UN Security Council resolutions 2199 and 2253. We are expecting the FATF to treat countries which fail to comply with the requirements set by this resolution in an extremely harsh manner, up to adding them to its black and gray lists," the diplomat said.
