Japanese embassy in Moscow reports easing of visa regulations for Russians

MOSCOW. Dec 16 (Interfax) - Since the beginning of 2017 alongside with one-time visas for Russians wishing to visit Japan there will be multiple visas for three years, head of the office of Japanese embassy in Moscow Tokuro Furuya said to Interfax.

Presently tourist visas are issued only for the duration of a concrete visit.

"The validity of multiple business visas is prolonged from three to five years. It will no longer be necessary to produce a guarantee letter from the inviting side or a Japanese travel company, if the applicant pays for the visit himself/herself. Thus Russians will be able to arrange their travels themselves and make any number of visits to Japan during three years but each travel implies a stay of no more than 30 days," Furuya said.

To apply it will be enough to produce any official document proving the solvency of the Russian citizen - a bank statement, a statement of earnings from one's place of employment or from the tax service. The list of mandatory documents will appear on the embassy's website at the end of December, it is now being confirmed by Tokyo.

It will also be sufficient to have confirmation of booking from an airline not a ticket. No hotel booking confirmation will be required for business travels or tourist trips, if a trip does not go beyond the standard tours of the country.

All visas will be issued free of charge, the term of handling documents remains the same - five working days.

"As far as we know as of January 1 the Russian side is also introducing measures to ease visa regulations. We hope that thanks to mutual measures tourist exchanges between our countries will grow which will also promote the further development of relations," the diplomat said.
