Taxi driver arrested on suspicion of robbing three foreign students in Moscow - source

MOSCOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Moscow detectives have arrested the taxi driver suspected of having robbed foreign students, a source in law enforcement agencies told Interfax on Sunday.

"Moscow criminal investigators have now arrested a taxi driver on suspicion of this crime," the source said.

His attack on three clients - students from Britain and France - is a subject of a criminal investigation as per Article 161 of the Russian Criminal Code (robbery), the source said. "Preliminary data suggest the taxi driver took from them a smartphone and a jewelry ring," the source said.

Earlier Yelena Fokina of the Moscow regional office of the Russian Investigative Committee told Interfax that checks were being carried out after a man's body had been found in the Moscow region's Mytishchi district.

Investigators believe this could be the body of the French citizen who went missing after the suspected robbery in Moscow.

Earlier media reports said that a British woman and two Frenchmen had been robbed in a Moscow taxi and ended up on the city's outskirts where one of them disappeared after going in an unknown direction.
