MOSCOW. Dec 19 (Interfax) - A decision on dispatching international observers for humanitarian monitoring in Syria's Aleppo should be made with Damascus's consent, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
This Russian position has been announced at a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov and the ambassadors from Finland, Denmark, Sweden, as well as the charges d'affaires a.i. in Russia from Norway and Iceland, the ministry said.
"The interlocutors were informed about the humanitarian situation in Syria with an emphasis on the measures which Russia is undertaking for evacuations from eastern Aleppo, and the ensuring of access of its residents to humanitarian aid," the statement said.
"In this context, the progress of coordinating a draft resolution on dispatching international observers to this area in the UN Security Council was discussed. The Russian side underscored that their activity should be carried out in keeping with the international humanitarian law norms, in particular, it envisages the consent for this humanitarian assistance from the Syrian government," the ministry said.
