West's anti-Russian propaganda among factors that led to Ambassador Karlov's assassination - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 27 (Interfax) - The West's anti-Russian propaganda has formed public opinion in such a way as to become one of the factors that led to Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov's assassination, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"This is purposeful anti-Russian propaganda. It's been spread for a long time, it's been spread on all levels, and it resulted in the Russian ambassador's assassination. This will be on the conscience of those who participated in this propaganda," Zakharova said at a news briefing on Tuesday.

She cited statements by various Western leaders and other officials directly or indirectly threatening Russia in the context of its activities in Syria.

Ambassador Karlov was shot and killed while speaking at the opening of a photo exhibition dealing with Russia in Ankara on December 19.
