Eurosib, DB Cargo launch container train between China, Europe through Mongolia

MOSCOW. Dec 28 (Interfax) - CJSC Eurosib SPb Transport Systems and DB Cargo Russija (a firm of Germany's Deutsche Bahn) launched a container train between China and Europe through the Mongolian transport corridor.

"The cargo consignment from the province of Chongqing was sent for the first time to the German ports of Hamburg and Duisburg through Mongolia, and not through Kazakhstan, as was the case earlier. The train, which left China on December 3, arrived to the destination in 13 days. The new route will allow the cargo transporter to offer alternative options for supplying cargo to its clients. At the start of 2017 it is planned to reach a regular schedule with weekly shipments," the Russian company said in a statement.

Eurosib Group said that in September it signed a memorandum on cooperation in railway transport with DB Cargo Russija. The companies agreed to launch a number of joint logistical products with bringing in rolling stock of the Russian company and transport capacities of DB Cargo Russija.

For the second year, Eurosib is organizing the transit of cargo from various Chinese provinces to Europe through Mongolia. In this time, more than 100 trains have been dispatched. In December, the company launched a new container service, Mongolian Shuttle, which allows for shipping cargo from the norther provinces of China to Moscow in 11 days," the company said.

Eurosib SPB Transport Systems is a railway operator of the St. Petersburg-based Eurosib Group. The company is managing a fleet of 13,400 railcars (including gondola cars, hopper cars, closed railcars, cisterns, flatcars), six locomotives, and also operates a terminal-logistics complex in Novosibirsk.
