Russian railways boost freight turnover 1.6% in 2016, 2.9% in December

MOSCOW. Jan 9 (Interfax) - Freight turnover on Russia's railways rose 1.6% year-on-year to 2.342 trillion tonne-km or, including empty runs, 1.4% to 2.998 trillion tonne-km, Russian Railways (RZD) reported.

Freight turnover in December alone rose 2.9% year-on-year to 208.2 billion tonne-km or, including empty runs, 3.1% to 267 billion tonne-km.

Cargo loading rose 0.6% to 1.222 billion tonnes in 2016 as a whole, including increases of 1.7% to 328.6 million tonnes of coal, 7.9% to 141 million tonnes of construction materials, 0.5% to 109.5 million tonnes of iron and manganese ore, 4% to 53.5 million tonnes of chemical and mineral fertilizers, 6.9% to 42.2 million tonnes of forest products, 0.3% to 34.98 million tonnes of industrial feedstock and molded materials, 2.6% to 25.7 million tonnes of chemicals and sodas, 3.1% to 21.1 million tonnes of nonferrous metal ore and sulfur, 0.3% to 15.02 million tonnes of ferrous metal scrap and 5.5% to 11.7 million tonnes of coke.

Loading fell 6.1% to 235.8 million tonnes of oil and petroleum products and 0.5% to 71.01 million tonnes of ferrous metals.

Loading in December alone rose 0.9% year-on-year to 105.2 million tonnes.
