Foreign Ministry should be asked about number of Russians captured in Donbas - Kremlin
MOSCOW. Jan 12 (Interfax) - The Kremlin refrained from commenting on Ukrainian parliamentarian Nadiya Savchenko's information on the number of Russians captured in Donbas but vowed to provide legal assistance to them.
"I don't have details, and therefore this question is obviously not for me," Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists when asked whether he could confirm Savchenko's statement that more than 100 Russian citizens are being held in Ukrainian prisons.
Asked who in his view could provide more detailed information on the matter, Peskov suggested that the Foreign Ministry should be addressed for comments.
Asked what the Russian government is doing to have its citizens released, Peskov replied, "When the matter concerns Russian citizens in need of legal protection, such assistance is provided to them."
Savchenko posted what she claimed to be an updated list of 101 Russian servicemen and civilians placed in Ukrainian jails in 2014-2016 on her Facebook account on January 11. She said six of these people had been freed, one was listed as dead, 42 were being searched for by the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and three by the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR).
