Russia bans poultry meat from Iran over avian flu

MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - Russia has banned the importation of live birds and poultry products from Iran due to the cases of highly pathogenic avian flu registered in that country, Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) reported.

The ban also applies to hatching eggs, poultry meat, poultry products that have not undergone thermal treatment, feed and feed additives and used equipment for poultry slaughter and dressing.

Rosselkhoznadzor also banned transit through Russia of live birds from Iran.

The restrictions are effective from January 16, 2017.

One hatching egg enterprise and three poultry meat enterprises in Iran are certified to export product to Russia, according to Rosselkhoznadzor data. All were added to the register of certified suppliers in 2015.
