Fatah member: Middle East Quartet's work has failed

MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - The format of the Quartet for the Middle East peace process involving Russia, the United States, the European Union, and the UN has failed, Palestine's Fatah Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad said.

"As concerns the Quartet, it has absolutely failed. Since the moment the quartet was set up, it has been unable to make a single step forward to implement the roadmap provisions in line with international resolutions, al-Ahmad said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"I believe the Quartet members themselves perfectly understand this," he said.

"We felt in a conversation with [Russian Foreign Minister] Sergei Lavrov that he perfectly understands that the Quartet's work has failed, no success has been made, and it's necessary to find a new format of Palestinian-Israeli settlement," he said.
