Twelve people injured in plane crash near Bishkek continue to receive hospital treatment

BISHKEK. Jan 18 (Interfax) - Residents of the Dacha-Suu neighborhood who suffered injuries in the crash of a Boeing 747-400 cargo plane near Bishkek and are receiving hospital treatment, are being fully provided with medicines.

Hospitals are providing treatment to 12 patients who have sustained traumas, bruises and concussions, the Kyrgyz Health Ministry told Interfax on Wednesday.

The casualty rate may still grow with people who have lost their families in the plane crash and are grieving deeply, a ministry representative said.

"Two people were hospitalized from a funeral on Wednesday afternoon; those were parents burying their children who died under Boeing debris," he said.

The hospitals have enough medicines to treat the patients, he said.

According to the ministry, 129 residents of the neighborhood asked for medical aid. Thirty-four were diagnosed with situational anxiety disorder and the same number were suffering from hypertension crises. Some patients complained of jet fuel poisoning, light burns and hypothermia.

A Turkish Boeing 747-400 crashed on the Dacha-Suu neighborhood in the vicinity of Manas Airport during its approach for landing. The plane fell on residential areas, and most victims were local residents hit by plane fragments. According to the Health Ministry, the Boeing crash killed 38 people, including four plane crewmembers - citizens of Turkey.
