Government increases money available for regional budget equalization transfers

MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - The Russian government has increased the amount of federal budget money available for regional budget equalization transfers to 614 billion rubles, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at the United Russia party congress.

"The government with United Russia's support, as in the previous two years, has approved a whole host of measures to ensure regional and local budget stability," Medvedev said.

The government "first and foremost provided up to 200 billion rubles in the federal budget for budget loans and 614 billion rubles for budget equalization transfers to the regions, which is 100 billion rubles more than last year," he said.

Additional stimuli were created at the legislative level, so that the regions can earn money themselves.

"But I will say straightaway, we need to keep thinking about how to help the regions to create a stable basis for their own development. Our regions must be self-sufficient, this is a necessary condition for the country's development," he said.
