Georgia hopes to broaden cooperation with U.S. under Trump

TBILISI. Jan 24 (Interfax) - The strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States will hopefully continue under the new administration of President Donald Trump, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.

"Georgia has an institutionalized format of strategic relations with the U.S. that envisages cooperation in the areas of defense and security, the economy, trade, energy and democratic development. Within the framework of the Charter on Strategic Partnership signed with the U.S., Georgia will continue very active cooperation," he said at a government session on Tuesday.

The U.S. has been supporting Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity since the first day of Georgia's independence, he said.

"We very much hope that the partnership between our countries will broaden even further," he said.
