Kyrgyz Health Ministry does not confirm higher death toll from Boeing crash in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK. Jan 26 (Interfax) - The death toll from the Turkish Boeing crash near Bishkek on January 16 has not risen, the Kyrgyz Health Ministry told Interfax on Thursday.

"The crash killed 39 persons, including 35 citizens of Kyrgyzstan and four citizens of Turkey - crewmembers of the crashed plane," it said.

A report posted on the website of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) on Thursday, which said that 43 people were killed in the Boeing crash in Kyrgyzstan, has also been refuted by the Kyrgyz Emergency Situations Ministry.

According to the Kyrgyz Health Ministry, 27 people hurt by the Boeing crash continued to receive hospital treatment in Kyrgyzstan.

"The condition of these hospital patients is fair and they are receiving medical attention to the full extent, however, rehabilitation therapy will be prescribed after they are discharged," the ministry said.

The Kyrgyz Emergency Situations Ministry, tentatively estimated the damage caused by the Boeing crash in a dacha compound near Bishkek at 186 million soms (the current exchange rate is 69.4 soms to the dollar). Damages are still being estimated.

Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev met with the families of the plane crash victims at the Ala-Archa State Residence on Thursday.

The Turkish Boeing 747-400 en route from Hong Kong to Istanbul via Bishkek crashed in the Dacha Suu residential area near Manas Airport during an approach for landing on January 16.

Most victims were local residents killed by plane debris.
