Countries, organizations preoccupied with humanitarian catastrophe in Syria are slow to help Syrians - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax) - Only four countries have sent humanitarian aid to Syria while all the rest have been making promises and arguments, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"Kazakh humanitarian aid will be dispatched from the Syrian port of Tartus today. Aid has been sent from Armenia, Belarus and Serbia in an earlier period. There has been no aid so far from other countries and international organizations, whose representatives have repeatedly dwelt on the disastrous position of Syrians and the humanitarian catastrophe in that country from their offices," ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov told Interfax on Monday.

A number of populated localities in the republic are energetically normalizing their life. "The Syrians need glass, roofing material, cement, pipes and construction machinery as much as bread and water in order to restore a peaceful lifestyle. They need real help rather than empty promises," he said.

More than 50 tonnes of food, medicines and essential goods have been delivered to populated localities in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Latakia and Hama in the past few days with the assistance of the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria, he said. "That aid was distributed amongst over 60,000 Syrians," Konashenkov said.
