Russia asks Belarus to tighten control over meat shipments from certain suppliers

MOSCOW. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Russian plant and animal health watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor has asked the Belarusian veterinary authority to impose tighter laboratory control over shipments of meat to Russia from a number of Belarusian enterprises.

Control needs to be tightened due to the discovery of dangerous microorganisms in the products, materials from the regulator show.

Listeria was found in poultry subproducts from Servolyuks and beef from the Koshelevo and Orshansky meat processing plants, and salmonella was found in poultry meat produced by the Belorussky breeding farm.

Violations were also found in products from the Zhlobinsky meat processing plant and the Luninetsky district consumer cooperative, a branch of Polesye.

If Belarus does not tighten control over shipments of products from these enterprises, they will lose the right to export to Russia the next time that dangerous microorganisms are found in them, Rosselkhoznadzor told Interfax.
