Humanitarian access should be provided to all regions of Yemen - Lavrov
ABU DHABI. Feb 1 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in a meeting with his Yemeni counterpart Abdel-Malek al-Mekhlafi on the sidelines of the Russian-Arab forum spoke in favor of providing humanitarian access to all regions of Yemen, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
"The foreign ministers of the two countries discussed the development of the situation in Yemen, where a military and political conflict involving the 'Arab coalition' led by Saudi Arabia continues," the ministry said in its report.
"Sergei Lavrov spoke for finding mutually acceptable solutions to the Yemeni crisis on the basis of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, decisions made by the National Dialogue Conference, and also the adoption of urgent measures to reduce the suffering of the people of Yemen, including providing unimpeded humanitarian access to all regions of the country," the ministry said.
According to earlier reports, the conflict between government forces and Hussite opposition groups has been ongoing in Yemen since 2014.
