Date for UNSC discussion on Syrian settlement to depend on outcome of Astana meeting - diplomat

ASTANA. Feb 2 (Interfax) - A discussion on Syrian conflict settlement at the UN Security Council under Ukraine's chairmanship, set for February 10, may be moved to another date, Ukrainian Charge d'Affaires to Kazakhstan Volodymyr Dzhydzhora said.

"The Syrian settlement issue is also among our priorities [at the UN Security Council], and we are planning to hold several sessions on a settlement for this conflict, as well as on the fight against terrorism and the financing of terrorism," he said at a press briefing in Astana on Thursday.

"Issues concerning a political settlement for the conflict in Syria will be discussed on February 10. This session may be rescheduled because on February 6 Astana will host the next meeting as part of the Astana process on Syrian settlement. The meeting in Astana will be attended by representatives of different countries and special services who will be in charge of details of the ceasefire, details of ceasefire monitoring," he said.

A decision on rescheduling the session "will be made depending on the outcome of the talks in Astana because these consultations in Astana should be followed by consultations in Geneva," he said.

Ukraine started its UN Security Council presidency on February 1.
