Kyiv responsible for truce breaches in Donbas - Lavrov in phone call with Italian foreign minister

MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the situation in Donbas with his Italian counterpart Angelino Alfano over the phone and pointed to Kyiv's grave violations of the Minsk agreements, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Lavrov drew his interlocutor's attention to the escalation of the situation in Donbas and pointed to the gravest violations by Kyiv of the Minsk Agreements, which have no alternative in terms of settling the Ukrainian crisis," the ministry said on its website on Friday.

Lavrov and Alfano also exchanged opinions "on the situation in relations between Russia and the West, on the tasks of the fight against terrorism and settlement of regional conflicts," it said.

The foreign ministers discussed "the schedule for upcoming contacts at the high and highest levels, as well as the tasks of ensuring the fully-fledged functioning of the main mechanisms of Russian-Italian cooperation and the restoration of positive dynamics in trade and economic ties."

The telephone conversation between Lavrov and Alfano took place on February 3 at the Italian side's initiative.
