Minsk: Russia knew about plans of five-day visa-free regime for foreigners, didn't rule out its prolongation
MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax) - Minsk may consider increasing the period of visa-free stay for foreigners on the territory of Belarus, which is now five days.
"Why five days? We wanted to try it," Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko told a 'big press conference' on Friday.
"We didn't conceal it [the decision on a five-day visa-free stay in Belarus for citizens of 80 states] from Russia. We could not have hidden it," Lukashenko said.
Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, for his part, said that "life goes on: if we see that this regime is working, we can offer and we will think about offering a longer stay of foreigners in our country."
Minsk "kept the Russians informed," Lukashenko said. "The allegation that Minsk declared visa-free stay and Moscow didn't know about it is a lie. Don't believe that," Lukashenko said.
