Deputy head of Tatfondbank detained on suspicion of embezzlement

KAZAN. Feb 9 (Interfax) - The internal Russian republic of Tatarstan's Interior Ministry has detained a deputy chief executive of Tatfondbank on suspicion of embezzling funds placed in the trusteeship of TFB Finance Investment Company, a Tatfondbank subsidiary, the ministry's press office said.

The name of the suspect is not being disclosed officially.

A source with knowledge of the situation told Interfax that Deputy CEO Vadim Merzlyakov was detained.

A source in law enforcement agencies told Interfax that the investigators also planned to petition the court to sanction Merzlyakov's arrest. "Yes, we'll probably [file a request]," the source said.

The Sovetsky District Court in Kazan will decide on interim measures against two other persons of interest in the case, Ilnar Abdulmanov and Rustam Timerbayev, on Thursday afternoon. The court session was due to begin at 2:30 p.m.
