Moldovan president speaks about plans to expand cooperation with EAEU

CHISINAU. Feb 14 (Interfax) - Moldovan President Igor Dodon has had a meeting with the ambassadors of a number of countries that were earlier Soviet republics to brief them on Moldova's plans to develop cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

"We exchanged opinions on the internal political situation, on the outcomes of my visits to Moscow and Brussels, and on the conditions and prospects of attracting investments to the Republic of Moldova. I also specifically informed [the ambassadors] of steps I am going to take toward developing cooperation with the Eurasian Union," Dodon said on Facebook.

He said he planned to hold such meetings, as well as meetings with European Union ambassadors, on a weekly basis.

Pictures from the meeting show six diplomats, including the Russian, Belarusian, Azerbaijani, and Georgian ambassadors, and also the consul of Kazakhstan. The Ukrainian ambassador was not present at the meeting. He had been in Kyiv on Monday to take part in negotiations with a Moldovan government delegation led by Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

Out of all the former Soviet republics, embassies in Chisinau are operated only by Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan, plus Latvia and Lithuania, which are EU members.
