Euro drops below 60 rubles/EUR1, lowest since July 2015
MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - The euro lost 55.25 kopecks to 59.874 rubles/EUR1 in trading on the Moscow Exchange on Wednesday, the European currency's lowest level against the ruble since July 2015, amid the anticipated increase in demand for ruble liquidity in the tax payment period and for carry trade operations.
The dollar was down 46.25 kopecks to 56.6455 rubles/$1 as of 10:49 a.m. Moscow time.
The Interfax-Center for Economic Analysis said the ruble was gaining against the dollar and euro on Wednesday as market participants prepare for the coming tax payment period and amid heightened demand for rubles for carry trade operations. Oil prices are trending lower due to American Petroleum Institute data showing that U.S. stockpiles increased by 9.94 million barrels last week.
